City will put deputy chief hiring on hold until new chief found
City officials have said they are waiting for a decision from Public Safety Director Mike Olson before moving forward with the release of more but still limited information and with the search for his replacement in the wake of his sudden and unexplained departure Jan. 22. Olson was place on administrative leave that day until Jan. 25 and has been on an undisclosed status since. Det./Sgt. Scott McDonald is serving as acting chief while the fire service is being operated by its three, assistant fire chiefs. The deadline for deputy chief applications, to fill the vacancy left by the Jan. 6 departure of Brett Pehrson to accept a new job as chief in Coldwater, was Feb. 1. City Manager Chris Olson said the new public safety director will have a role in to play in the hiring of the new deputy chief.

When the people who should be in charge are not letting the voters know the story, it calls this whole process into question.
Maybe the city manager and the coucil are incompetent. Maybe we need to find a new manager and city council before we hire a deputy or chief of public safety. Anyone looking at the job of chief here better know the manager and coucil may be experiencing some short tenures.
I think that we need a total overhaul of city government here in Marshall. I agree with anonymous who says that they are incompetent. The word corruption has been going around for years and with recent events, the word has finally reached outside of Marshall. Too bad. Pretty on the outside, ugly beneath its surface.
it is too bad marshall has let it's image degrade to the point it has. i am embarassed and sorry to say i live here. we got trashed in the battle creek paper a couple of weeks ago over this dispatch thing at the same time this mess with the police department. we look like babbling idiots,fools and like we can not get it together to ever run the city the way it should be. let us fix our own problems, before we go out publically with any other city telling them (battle creek) what they have to do for dispatch.
