Voters to decide on paying same or lower taxes

During parent-teacher conferences at Marshall Public Schools, brochures on the extension of the current operating millage were available to those attending. In fact, at each of the three elementary schools, the middle school and high school, the brochures were enlarged on poster board and highly visible to those entering the buildings. What may not have been as apparent was the fact that school tax bills will begin to reduce by .6 mil this summer if voters turn down the May 8 ballot question of whether the district should continue to levy the 2001 bond millage at is current level of 4.45. Find out more about this proposition, designed to finance building improvements, on page 1 of the April 9 Chronicle.

I do not trust Supt. Phillips and her school board supporters after all of the bad decisions they have made, and all of the problems they have caused. We are losing good staff, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been mismanaged, Supt. Phillips has done an awful job and got a big raise and contract extention for it. She has also been very rude, dishonest and arrogant in her relations with the staff, parents and students. Until there is a new Superintendent, I will not be voting for any school bonds. Many others feel the same way! The school board knows about all of these problems and should have fired Supt. Phillips this spring. It was a huge mistake when they decided to keep her two more years.

The MPS school board will need to fire the Superintendent and get their act together before I will support any tax increases for the schools.

The school wants to waste more money. The building is 34 years old. How can we afford to rebuild every building in the city and keep up with the other cities? One of the reasons why people do NOT come to Marshall is due to the VERY HIGH TAXES and the city and school do very little to provide SERVICE. They want more and more and do less and less. Vote NO. The school needs to LEARN to do what every other company is forced to do, more with less. They are happy to spend OUR money and do NOTHING for it.
