Garage sale ordinance closer to reality

After more than an hour of debate among themselves and with input from only one city resident, Kathy Miller, at a public hearing, the Marshall City Planning Commission tonight voted unanimously to recommend that the Marshall City Council adopt an amendment to the zoning code that would regulate garage sales. The language, however, has changed from the originally proposed limit of no more than two sales per year lasting no longer than three days in residential zones. The newly proposed language now recommends allowing sales three times per year, no more than four days each with participation in a citywide garage sale set by resolution of city council not counted against the quota. This, if passed, would allow for up to a total of four garage sales per year of personal items. And, Estate sales were added and would be covered by the ordinance if approved. See this Saturday's Chronicle for more on this story.

this is a bunch of bullshit! They are wasting time and tax dollars sitting around debating garage sales when they could be fixing the potholes on Marshall streets. Instead of worrying about who is having garage sales maybe you should sit around and talk about getting rid of all the ugly ass "contemporary art" statues that are littering the downtown area. Who the fuck would pay $11,000 for junk metal. If it wasn't for art or historical bullshit Marshall wouldn't have a damn thing. Maybe you should try and bring some jobs into Marshall instead of condoning people sitting on their ass welding junk metal together and selling it for 100 times more than it's worth. Keep up the good work and Marshall is going to be the new Albion. What about all the people that can't afford to buy things new? Not everyone goes to a garage sale to look for a bargain so they can resell it for 10 times more than they bought it for. There are plenty of people that go to garage sales because they can't afford to shop anywhere else. if you are going to ban garage sales you might as well shut down goodwill and cornwell's flea market, because after all, it makes your shitty art community look bad! and while you're at it, why don't you tell the cops to stop harassing kids downtown at night, they aren't doing anything wrong besides hanging out, god knows there isn't shit else to do in a historical society that are all in bed by 9. Why don't they find something better to do besides cruise through town 50 times looking for people doing piddly shit. There are plenty of other areas of town that need attention. Quit cruising the streets and do your damn job!

How can a family residence accumulate enough items
of their own without buying up used items from other places such as Goodwill and other garage sales in order to justify having a sale four times per year? The answer is: They can't !
