Marshall Public Schools hosts community forum tonight

The Marshall Publics Schools Board of Education will host a community forum tonight at Marshall High School from 7-9 p.m. in the cafeteria. At 6:50 p.m., the board is expected to approve Michigan Leadership Institute as the firm that will conduct the search to find a new superintendent. The board is also expected to approve the hiring of interim administrators to fill the positions of assistant superintendent and director of finance and operations.

The bond loss was a huge setback for the district. Marshall can't afford to keep falling behind other area school districts. Then we lost 100 students! We can't afford the board dragging their feet much longer. They need to wake up and face reality. We need a new interim superintendent now, not next year.

We need a new superintendent this year too. We need to start healing and uniting for the kids. Another year of divisions, hostility and anger is the last thing we need now.

While the economy played a role in the bond loss, there is no doubt in my mind it would have passed if we had a good Superintendent that was trusted and respected. The board has many good reasons to replace Joyce Phillips now. If they truly care about the "best interests" of the Marshall schools they will do just that before things get worse.
