Dozens turn out to support Hulkow

Over 100 people turned out Monday night at Gordon Elementary School for the Marshall Public Schools regular meeting, many to support Marshall High School Assistant Principal, Athletic Director and Varsity Football Coach Rich Hulkow. Although not on the evening's agenda, many spoke out on behalf of Hulkow, whose two-year contract with Good Marks For Schools is coming to an end. In 2007, Hulkow retired from MPS and worked out a deal with Good MArks For Schools and the district to stay on in his current positions. Many of Hulkow's supporters said they had been informed that Hulkow might have to choose between being only athletic director or head coach. Hulkow told the board that he had complied with his request for renewal in by Jan, 1. "I haven't had a conversation, other than with (Trustee) John Coulter," said Hulkow. "Not from the superintendent, not from anybody on the board since...asking for the renewal." For more on this story check out the Jan. 18 edition of the advisor&chronicle.

Time for a recall? said...

I would say the vast majority of the staff and community will back Coach Hulkow against Joyce Phillips and her board friends-Stulberg, Darling, Beardslee, Potter, and Webb.

I hope this fight is the last one that will bring down this regime. It is at least three years too late! Too late to save others like Ron. B., Kathy P. or the custodians.

Hopefully the truth will come out and JP will lose her 2nd Michigan retirement. The battle is just getting started! I hope there is a recall! That is what is most needed to turn this mess around! Do it for the kids!

Phillips and the board are trying to scapegoat Mr. Hulkow before they announce their big budget cuts. The problems are the superintendent and the board's fault. Mr. Hulkow is a great asset to our schools and handles three big jobs very well. Much better than Klochack, Turner, Phillips or the former Metcalf and Jones.

We need big changes for our kids, our schools and our community! Otherwise even lower property values, less businesses want to come, and "Class C" here we come. This hurts the hospital too.
